Bovington Tank Museum......17th May, 1987
A look around Bovington Tank Museum.
Not easy to video.
With the vehicles all crammed togther, & dark at times.
Video camcorders of the day did not have wide angle lens.
And not to good in low light conditions.

Just wondering. I’ve flown a Spitfire XVI, Sea Fury, Harvard . I’m a civilian pilot with lots of tail wheel time ie Cessna 185 and 180. When I strarted rebuilding the Spit. I noticed most of the War bird crashes were flown by Military pilots. Could it be they are not well trained enough and are given credit for being better than they really are when it comes to these aircraft?

Not Lightning but Binbrook related, Best story my old man told me was he was on black top one night, as most of you know Binbrook had its own weather and was notorious for heavy snow. Anyway they had a new WO one night, he told the crew on black top which way they should be clearing the snow, Even though they told the WO they would be blowing into the wind he would have none of it. To cut a long story short, The WO ended up eating a large piece of humble pie after they had to redo the whole runway again! There is another story as well on how the MT section had the station Commander on the floor in the rain with his face in a puddle (whilst on exercice)

One way trip to Russia during the cold war. All the fuel was used. If they were lucky enough to drop their payload at the designated target then the only outcome would be a friendly airfield within NATO - if still operational. The white Vulcans were painted to reflect a nuclear detonation flash. A beautiful example can be viewed at the Duxford Air Museum. Interesting fact - during the Falkland war the Vulcan had to mirror the onboard map to reflect a route to Canada then invert the map to Argentina. The Vulcan only had a map for Russia and her block countries.

Nice to see some motorway driving from that year on the M25 and then the M1, I can see that back then the blue signs were slightly different looking to the ones we've got now, and also before they changed into smart motorways, including having a bit of the M25 that is no longer concrete.

I love watching these videos for one reason, the cars of that particular time! You simply dont realise how much cars change over time, i never realised how many fords and vauxhalls were about back then! If its 1994 then the majority of motors will still be 80s cars with the 90s ones gradually becoming more popular with L and M reg plate ones been the brand new cars!

We have a piece of Black 6 at the Kent Battle of Britain Museum.. still it's wonderful she was restored and yes she was rebuilt to flying condition after the accident, but the chap who procured her for the restoration Russ Snadden it was decided not to renew the permit to fly due to her rarity as her registration was cancelled in 2000.. so she's a static now albeit in an airworthy condition.. she's now at Hendon..
